The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) in a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir police arrested two men from Udham Singh Nagar’s Rudrapur for their alleged involvement in a narco terror module which was busted in J&K’s Ramban on September 30, said the STF senior superintendent of police Ayush Agrawal. Both the accused identified as Krishan Pal (27) and Deep Chand (28) belong to Paipura village in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur. He said that J&K police had busted a narco terror module last month and arrested two alleged smugglers in Ramban after recovering 30 kilogrammes of cocaine from a Punjab-bound vehicle. The cocaine was purportedly being brought from North Kashmir to Punjab. Agarwal said, “The J&K police found during the initial investigation that cocaine was being brought from across the border and the arrested smugglers had used fake documents and number plates to evade investigation at the checkpost. The J&K police had recovered 38 counterfeit number plates, several counterfeit registration certificates, counterfeit passports, cash over Rs five crore and an illegal revolver from the Punjab house of the smuggler arrested by them. This arrested accused confessed that these counterfeit documents and number plates were made in Udham Singh Nagar district.” The SSP said that the J&K police shared the input with Uttarakhand STF after which he instructed the Kumaon unit to investigate the matter and take action. “The STF identified two members of the narco terror module in a time period of 20 days. In a joint operation with J&K police, STF raided the possible locations of the suspects for two consecutive days and finally arrested both the accused from Rudrapur,” said Agrawal. He said that the authorities recovered several items from their possession including a printer, a cancelled passport, a hard disk, a registration certificate, 10 chequebooks, three pen drives, an insurance certificate, four driving licenses, 11 Aadhaar cards, stamp paper, five school certificates, two PAN cards, Police Samachar service card, digital stamp maker, stamp pad and 12 passbooks. “The accused revealed in the interrogation that they were in touch with the smugglers arrested from J&K for a long time. We are thoroughly investigating where the counterfeit documents created by them were used. Both the accused were handed over to J&K police on Wednesday night,” added Agrawal.
