STF arrests three men from Rajasthan for duping Pauri resident of over Rs 65 lakh

Continuing its streak of arresting accused in national level cyber frauds, the cyber crime police station of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested three people involved in a cyber scam of at least Rs three crore from Rajasthan. The accused identified as Manoj Gujjar (28), Omprakash Kumawat (22) and Raees Khanputra Mansoor Ali (23) have 70 complaints registered against them at the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) from various States.
The senior superintendent of police of STF Ayush Agrawal said that the accused revealed during the investigation that they created fake websites of well-known companies and contacted random people through WhatsApp, e-mail, calls and other social sites claiming to be officers or employees of various well-known companies. They make them download apps claiming that they will help them recover the loss in the stock market besides getting them extra profit in investments. They lure them to invest more and then transfer all the money into their bank accounts by scamming victims. They commit the scam using fake SIMs, ID cards and bank accounts, said Agrawal. He said that the gang members had similarly duped a Pauri resident of Rs 65.09 lakh.
The accused allegedly asked the victim to download two apps named OKX and LSEC App in the name of Forex trading and asked him to transfer the money for trading using the apps to get back the lost money in the stock market besides getting extra profit. The complainant registered a complaint against the accused under Section 420, 120 B of the Indian Penal Code and 66 D of the IT Act in the Cyber Crime Police Station.
The cyber police started the thorough technical analysis of details provided by the complainant like mobile numbers and bank accounts given by scammers to the victims. The team finally traced three members of the gang to Rajasthan’s Bhilwara and arrested them on Monday and brought them to Dehradun, said SSP. The police recovered four mobile phones, two credit cards, and two debit cards along with the Aadhaar card and PAN card used in the scam. Agrawal said that cyber fraudsters are coming up with new techniques to dupe people of every age group and it is necessary to stay cautious while using social media and making every transaction using digital platforms. He appealed to call at 1930 to complain about financial cyber frauds.
