The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested two men and a woman in Dehradun for allegedly scamming locals using the pretext of Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY). The senior superintendent of police of STF, Ayush Agrawal informed that they received information that some people from a house in Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun have been approaching people through phone calls to take loans under PMMY in the name of providing all benefits of the scheme. He said that the accused allegedly used to ask Rs 2,000 and more as processing fees and then later demand an amount ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 which they claimed was refundable within 45 days after giving them the loan. They used to get the money digitally by sending QR codes to interested parties. After getting this information, Agrawal said that an STF team raided the said house and arrested the three accused- Nishant Sharma and Megha Sharma belonging to New Delhi and a Bihar native Tuntun Kumar. The team also recovered one laptop, 13 mobile phones, four SIM cards and six passbooks among other items from the accused. The SSP said that the accused revealed during the inquiry that they upload advertisements of providing loans under PMMY on Facebook and then approach people through fake mobile numbers. Subsequently, they get money from them as per their process and then change their mobile numbers after a few weeks. They also got some poor people to open fake accounts and then kept the ATM and passbook of those accounts in lieu of some money. After receiving money from their victims, they used to close these accounts, said Agrawal. The SSP once again appealed to the citizens to fully analyse every scheme and company before making any digital transactions.
