STF arrests two with charas worth Rs 24 lakh in Champawat

The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested two men in the Tanakpur area of Champawat district and recovered approximately 4.30 kilogrammes of charas of around Rs 24 lakh from them. The two accused have been identified as Jai Bahadur Dhami (29) from Bajhang district, Nepal and Kabir Garbyal (52) from Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand.
The joint operation was conducted by the STF Kumaon Unit, Rudrapur, in collaboration with the Tanakpur police, the STF senior superintendent of police Navneet Bhullar said. He informed that as part of the broader effort to intensify anti-drug measures, the STF Kumaon Unit has been directed to maintain strict surveillance across all districts in the region. Under the supervision of additional superintendent of police Swapn Kishore Singh and Circle Officer RB Chamola, the team carried out the arrest in front of Arya Mandir in Tanakpur, where both accused were apprehended with the narcotics on Saturday.
Bhullar said that during initial interrogation, the accused revealed that the charas had been smuggled from Nepal and was intended for sale at high prices in Champawat and other districts bordering Nepal. The STF also obtained information about several other individuals allegedly involved in similar activities, and further actions are planned. Authorities are currently examining the criminal backgrounds of the arrested individuals.
