Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested an accused absconding for five years from Chandigarh on Monday. He had scammed many on the pretext of providing them government jobs. The senior superintendent of police (SSP) of STF, Ayush Agrawal informed that the accused named Amar Singh was Gram Pradhan of Kunja Bahadurpur village in Haridwar five year ago and during his tenure, he took advantage of his position to scam several people. He allegedly promised them government jobs like that of a clerk in a government college or in BHEL, Haridwar and scammed them of lakhs of rupees.

The accused suddenly left the district after collecting lakhs of rupees from several people about five years ago in 2018 and even did not contact his family members after that, said the SSP. A case was registered against him in Roorkee in 2018 and despite several attempts, authorities failed to nab him till now. The Haridwar SSP at that time had also announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for his arrest which was increased to Rs 25,000 later but the accused always managed to escape from the police, said Agrawal. He said that the accused never stayed at the same location for long and had consistently changed several locations since his escape in 2018 that also made it hard for police to nab him sooner.

The STF team analysed his pattern of changing locations and made a plan accordingly due to which, he was nabbed in Chandigarh from a hotel on Monday. The accused Amar Singh used to live in disguise in hotels to conceal his identity. He also used to visit the Osho Meditation Centre in Nagaur district of Rajasthan every month, informed the SSP.
