STF nabs interstate smuggler with 2.3 Kg opium

The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested an interstate drug smuggler with 2.30 kilogrammes of opium from Pauri’s Kalagarh area late on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Malkeet Singh (45) who belongs to Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor and was carrying opium worth Rs 22 lakh, said the STF senior superintendent of police Ayush Agrawal. He said that a team of ANTF under the supervision of circle officer of STF’s Kumaon unit Sumit Pandey and ANTF in-charge Pawan Swaroop arrested Singh who had been on STF’s radar for a long time. He had been supplying opium in the State for the past several years and revealed during the investigation that he used to bring opium from Bareilly to smuggle here, said SSP. He informed that ANTF of the Kumaon unit has recovered a total of 23.31 kilogrammes of charas, 7.91 kilogrammes of opium and 1.91 kilogrammes of smack this year so far. The team has also taken action against 13 accused in these cases under various acts including the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as per Agrawal.
