STF nabs man with musk pod & two hooves in Dehradun

The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested a wildlife trafficker Krishna Kumar (52) with a musk pod weighing 25.62 grammes and two hooves of deer in Dehradun’s Vikasnagar area. The STF conducted this operation in collaboration with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) Delhi which was part of an ongoing effort to counter wildlife trafficking in the region, the senior superintendent of police of STF Navneet Singh said. He informed that acting on a tip from WCCB, the STF team launched a targeted investigation. The accused Kumar is a resident of Vijay Colony, Herbertpur who was apprehended near Shakti Canal Bridge Number 2 late on Wednesday. According to him, the items seized from Kumar are highly protected under the Wildlife Protection Act. He said that following Kumar’s arrest, a case was filed at Vikasnagar Police Station under the Wildlife Protection Act. The STF is continuing its investigation to identify potential accomplices and additional wildlife trafficking activities, coordinating efforts with the Forest department to ensure thorough follow-up, he said. He also urged the public to report suspicious wildlife activities and remains committed to curbing poaching and protecting vulnerable wildlife.
