The accused identified as Mohammad Bin Qasim, a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh was arrested late on Sunday with over 1.1 kilogrammes of smack, the additional superintendent of police Chandra Mohan Singh said. He stated in a Press conference held in STF’s Dehradun office on Monday morning that the STF had been consistently working to nab drug smugglers and peddlers under the State government’s anti-drug campaign to make the State drug-free by 2025.
In view of this, the STF’s ANTF team conducted an operation on the orders of the STF senior superintendent of police Ayush Agrawal to nab two people involved in drug smuggling in the State. The STF arrested Qasim from the Manglaur area late on Sunday but his accomplice Salman was able to flee the spot due to darkness in the area at night. Singh said that Qasim revealed during the interrogation that he had brought this smack from Bareilly to supply it to the absconding accused Salman in Manglaur. He has also provided crucial information about drug smuggling in the State besides providing the names of many drug peddlers active here. The STF is verifying all the information and will act further accordingly, the ASP said. He informed that four cases are already registered against Salman in Gangnahar and Manglaur police stations under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The authorities will nab him soon. Singh added that the SSP has also announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the STF team involved in the case.
