STF nabs two Bihar residents in Rs 1.30 crore insurance policy scam case

The cyber crime police of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested two Bihar residents- Maksood Alam and Junaid Alam from Delhi for being allegedly involved with a cyber crime gang that duped a Dehradun woman of Rs 95.1 lakh on the pretext of solving issues in her life insurance policy. The gang is reportedly involved in carrying out the scams of over Rs 1.30 crore in various states and the STF has arrested four members of the gang so far, said Ankush Mishra, the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of cyber crime, STF. He informed that a Dehradun resident Vinod Kumari Bansal had registered a complaint last year that she was duped by people pretending to be calling from her insurance firm. Some men contacted her through various contact numbers asking her to share her bank details and demanded some money on the pretext of resolving some issues in her life insurance policy. They also lured her to invest Rs 95.10 lakh in the name of investing the policy amount in a planned manner to get thrice the amount as profit, said Mishra. He said that the police registered a complaint against unknown culprits and the investigation confirmed that the complainant was duped by cyber criminals. He said that the cyber criminal group was operating from Delhi and Bihar and has also allegedly duped several others in various parts of the country. The STF recovered three ATM cards, three mobile phones and seven sim cards from the arrested accused on Tuesday. The DSP said that the STF is still probing the involvement of more people in this fraud. He added that the STF is also sharing the information of the arrested accused with the police of various states to help them crack unsolved insurance policy scams.
