A sewage treatment plant (STP) with seven million litres per day (MLD) capacity was inaugurated at BHEL Haridwar to treat the sewage of township premises and surrounding suburban areas. The STP was inaugurated by BHEL’s director (HR & Power) Anil Kapoor and Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) member secretary SP Subudhi in the presence of BHEL Haridwar executive director Sanjay Gulati.

Kapoor said that it is necessary to treat the sewage water properly before mixing it in any natural water source to avoid any adverse effect on the environment. He said this STP will help in the success of Namami Gange programme of National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). Subudhi said that this step will be helpful in maintaining the serene and spiritual atmosphere of Haridwar.
