Strengthen information system across State, directs CM

The information system should be strengthened to ensure that the public is made aware of the government’s public welfare schemes. Along with modern technology, print, electronic and social media should be used effectively, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said. Visiting the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Dhami also announced that the corpus for the journalist welfare fund will be increased from Rs five crore to Rs 10 cr0re.
Interacting with officials in the department during a review which lasted about five hours, the CM said that the use of e-filing system should be maximised and that the information system in the districts should also be strengthened with special focus on improving it also in the mountainous regions of the State. Senior departmental officials should be made nodal officers for the district for this purpose. He also directed officials to check the feasibility of group insurance for journalists. A system should also be put in place for accreditation of journalists till the Tehsil level. He said that the Information department is the link between the government and the public and that it should ensure that the works and schemes of the government are communicated in simple language through the media to the public.
Information director general Banshidhar Tiwari informed the CM about the activities of the department. He said a number of posts are vacant in the department, adding that the process for recruitment to the posts of information officer and other posts is underway.
