In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Uttarkashi district magistrate Abhishek Ruhela said while addressing a seminar/ press conference hosted by the district panchayat on the just-concluded Magh Mela that along with promoting religious and cultural traditions, the congregation should also be used to promote local products and added that through promotion of local products like multiple variety of milets and others, the mela could prove instrumental in strengthening the district’s economy. During the seminar, several subjects pertaining to the mela were discussed. The Gangotri MLA Suresh Chauhan said that Magh Mela once had played important role in Uttarkashi-Tibet trade. He stressed on the fair retaining its cultural/mythological form. The district panchayat chief Deepak Bijlwan said that efforts would be made to organise Magh Mela in a better way in future by implementing the suggestions received from the journalists.
