Strong advocacy needed in SC and HC on cases related to State: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the department of Legal Affairs should ensure that all the cases related to various subjects of the State are strongly taken up in the Supreme Court and High Court. The CM held a review meeting of the department at the secretariat on Saturday. He said that Uttarakhand is a young State and for its overall development, all must move forward with a new work culture.

The CM said that digital mediums should be used to the maximum to expedite proceedings in court cases. He said that it should be ensured that advocacy is done strongly on various issues related to the State in the courts. The CM said that for better advocacy on various issues related to the public interest of the State, there is a need for regular coordination between the government and government advocates.  He also stressed on performance based approach for successful implementation of the works

The CM’s advice to the department is being viewed as his displeasure on its functioning. Recently the Special Leave Petition (SLP) of the State government on the Uttarakhand High Court order on the contractual workers of UPNL was rejected by the Supreme Court. The government is now planning to file a review petition in the SC on the issue. 

 In the meeting with the officers of the department of Legal Affairs, the CM said that everyone has to work and contribute as a co-traveler in the development journey of the State. It is important for everyone to discharge their duties and responsibilities with full dedication. Dhami said that innovation is necessary in work culture, moving away from tradition and emphasised that more attention should be paid on innovative experiments.

Deputy chairperson of the State Infrastructure Monitoring Council, Vishwas Dawar, advocate general SN Babulkar, principal secretary (Legal Affairs) Pradeep Pant, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, State counsels Amit Bhatt, GS Rawat, secretaries Shailesh Bagauli, SN Pandey and others also attended the meeting.
