Students have sounded quite excited over the recent changes implemented by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) concerning the board examinations for class X students which will now be offered twice a year starting in 2026. The CBSE recently approved the draft policy during a meeting presided over by the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Looking happy and relieved, teachers and students said in one voice that this move would open additional opportunities and alleviate the anxiety associated with board examinations.
A lecturer at Government Inter College at Buranshkhanda, Tehri Ankit Joshi said that India’s current education system adheres to the 10+2+3 structure. “However, the National Educational Policy (NEP) proposes a revised framework of 5+3+3+4. This change has been introduced to alleviate the pressures associated with academic studies and the coaching culture prevalent among students. Similarly, the recent decision made by CBSE aligns with the NEP and is commendable. It will definitely yield positive outcomes in the future,” he added.
Joshi further said that the new policy enabling students to take board examinations twice would have the opportunity to enhance their performance and this, in turn, would open further avenues for success. “Besides, it will help reduce stress and result in a 100 per cent success rate,” he said.
Initially, the implementation may pose some challenges. “But if executed effectively, the process will ultimately progress smoothly,” he opined.
Further, a student who will appear for the board examination of class X in 2026, Shivam Bijnoi hailed the move, saying that it would lessen pressure on them. “Nothing can be better than this. We feel relieved. In case we are not satisfied with the marks we get in the first attempt we will have the option to sit the second time and things will surely improve as we will work harder,” he said.
Another student, Payal Verma echoed the same view. “This move will not only enhance the overall pass rate but also spare us the frustration we come under in case our results are not up to our expectations. The option to retake the examination will help us do better through harder work and firmer determination,” she said.
“However, let me make a suggestion to the authorities concerned. May this move be extended to class XII as well,” she added.
