As part of the Srijan social internship initiative of the UPES, the university students are learning life skills, human and social skills as part of the mandatory six-week-long programme. The university states that it has more than 3,200 students giving a minimum of eight hours daily for two months to social service. This leads to more than seven lakh hours dedicated to volunteering for social development activities.
Inspired and influenced by the social internships, 250 students from UPES established Global Society of Social Soldiers (GS3) are working in eight remote locations, spreading awareness through its various projects. GS3 has started various social development projects catering to health awareness for kids, digital education, women health and wellness among others. In a short span of three months, GS3 has aided more than 1,350 children and adolescents in the areas nearby UPES, claimed the university.
UPES vice chancellor Sunil Rai said, “Young people have the potential to shape a better world along with the energy and the will to deep dive into problems and look for solutions. Introducing them to the social sector right in the beginning of their higher education journey through social internships will create future change makers, social entrepreneurs and problem solvers that our country needs.”
