Substandard work dents roads leading to Auli

Saturday, 26 February 2022 | PNS | Joshimath

Despite the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s orders and repeated claims of making the state’s roads free of potholes last year, the condition of roads remains pathetic in various parts of the state. The famous snow sports destination of Auli near Joshimath in Chamoli district is reached by roads which are riddled by potholes. The condition of the roads to Auli is causing inconvenience to the travelers. Considering this, the department concerned is undertaking necessary action but the quality of the work is being questioned by the locals. Such is the quality of the work that the tar being laid is coming off shortly after being laid. Local residents state that the quality of work is so substandard that the tar being laid is coming off while the remaining gravels pose an accident risk for two-wheeler riders. The Public Works Department AE Anil Kumar said that the contractor has not been paid yet for this work which is being undertaken. If the work is found to be substandard, the contractor will not be paid for the work, said Kumar.
