Supporters of Trivendra Singh Rawat and Umesh Kumar clash in Haridwar

The supporters of the former chief minister and BJP candidate from Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency Trivendra Singh Rawat and the independent candidate Umesh Kumar clashed at the Bhagwanpur junction in Haridwar on Tuesday evening. The motorcade of both leaders reportedly met at the junction and had arguments. The supporters of Kumar allegedly threw posters and other materials over Rawat’s and his supporters’ cars which soon escalated into a fight. The personal secretary of Rawat along with some supporters also sustained some cuts and injuries. The police were also called to the spot where the police conducted an inquiry. The supporters of both candidates also raised ruckus in the Bhagwanpur police station late in the evening. Regarding the incident, the police officials said that they received information about the incident and reached the spot. They will soon take action in the case accordingly, they added. The whole election process was going smoothly in the State so far but the fight between the supporters of the two candidates disturbed the atmosphere just two days before polling to be held on Friday. However, the police said that everything is under control and strict action will be taken in the matter against offenders.
