Suspended driving license to be reinstated only after refresher course

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Driving license suspended for three months will no longer be reinstated automatically and will require completion of a mandatory refresher training course, the regional transport officer (administration), Dehradun division, Sandeep Saini said.

Saini stated that as per Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (CMVR), the suspended driving license of an offender can only be reinstated after they successfully complete a ‘Refresher Training Course’ from a school or institution licensed and regulated under Section 12, or from any other agency designated by the Central Government, he said.

He further informed that as a result, the feature for “Automatic Revocation” of driving licenses following the suspension period in the Sarathi software has been discontinued starting April 20. Additionally, suspended driving licenses will only be reactivated once the offender uploads and verifies their refresher training course certificate, Saini said.
