In view of consistent traffic congestion on three main roads of Dehradun- Rajpur Road, Subhash Road and East Canal Road, the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar directed the officials on Tuesday to take action against the vehicles parked in no parking zones even if they belong to any government department.
The DGP held a meeting on Tuesday with all the gazetted officers, traffic inspectors and police station in-charges of Dehradun district regarding traffic and law and order. He said in the meeting that more traffic sub-inspectors will be deployed to manage traffic across the district and will be given necessary training for the same too. He said that considering the upcoming tourist season and Char Dham Yatra, one traffic inspector and one traffic sub-inspector will be appointed in Rishikesh and Mussoorie respectively.
The police have identified 20 bottlenecks across the district that obstruct traffic where the superintendent of police (Traffic) Akshay Konde will appoint police personnel for regular duty to ensure smooth traffic. The police station incharges of Dehradun have also been directed to take action against roadside encroachments in their respective areas that cause traffic congestion too. Kumar said that the police have identified 16 new parking places in Dehradun and directed the officials to make suitable arrangements there soon to minimise the roadside parking issue near the main roads. He also directed the officials to take action against each vehicle parked in No Parking Zones on Rajpur Road, Subhash Road and East Canal Road by towing or clamping even if it belongs to any government department.
The DGP also praised Konde for his initiatives in the past three months to improve traffic management. He also appealed to the people to adopt the car-pooling trend that helps to minimise traffic congestion on roads and benefits the environment.
