There has been a rise in the mercury level in recent days across the State. Though rains in parts of the State have brought some relief, experts opine that people should observe precautions against the heat. Dietician in the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Richa Kukreti Dobriyal said that the foods and the drinks consumed in this weather will have a major impact on a person’s day-to-day life. “In this weather, dehydration will be your biggest enemy and one of the main causes of dehydration is going out on an empty stomach. So whenever possible, try to eat something light frequently during the day, drink as much water as you can, eat fruits with fluid, drink lassi, chhach, lemon tea or green tea. Try to avoid consuming heavy oily foods, cold drinks or sweet milk tea.”
She also emphasised on the importance of taking care of children during such weather. “During these times, children will be the most vulnerable. When they go to school make sure they carry water bottles. In their tiffin give them something light like a sandwich or a fruit (uncut), and from time-to-time give them something to drink, whether it is lemonade or lassi which will hydrate them. Since they are young, they have a different temperature than the adults, so it’s preferable to feed them something after every three hours,” she added.
