With the changing of seasons from the intense cold to a milder climate, health issues are becoming more prevalent. According to experts, during the transition phase from winter to milder weather, people are more prone to suffer from various health issues. Specifically, children and elderly individuals suffering from asthma need to be more cautious during temperature fluctuations in the weather. Throat infections, cough and fever are the most common ailments during seasonal changes, the experts said.
Senior surgeon Dr Praveen Panwar said that as temperatures change from the cold wave to warmer weather, people tend to take fewer precautions and wear lighter clothing. The fluctuating temperature, increased outdoor activities and rainy weather have caused a rise in viral infections among people. During this period, fever, cough, cold and breathing problems, particularly among those with asthma, are more prevalent. “It is highly recommended for individuals to exercise necessary precautions during changes in weather and temperature. Wearing clothing that covers one fully and getting adequate rest can help individuals recover from viral infections in a timely manner. Additionally, elderly individuals suffering from conditions such as diabetes and asthma should exercise extra caution during such periods,” Panwar said.
He further emphasised the importance of seeking medical advice before taking any medication.
Dwelling on the issue, paediatrician Dr Apoorva Jain said, “”I have come across numerous cases of viral infections among children as soon as the temperature changes. People now tend to believe that the daytime temperature is high and often wear lighter clothing, which adversely affects their health. Fever, cold, cough and sore throat, commonly known as upper respiratory tract issues, are frequently observed among children nowadays. To prevent these ailments, parents are advised to dress their children in winter clothing and avoid giving them cold beverages. Precautions should also be observed in food to keep children away from viral infection.”
