Take steps to increase student enrolments in Govt schools : CM

Expressing concern over decreasing student enrollment in the government schools of the State, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that there is a need for introspection on the reasons for this decrease. He said that efforts should be made to increase enrollment in the government schools. The CM was addressing the inaugural session of the Chintan Shivir organised by the State Education department here on Friday.

He expressed hope that the deliberation in the two-day Chintan Shivir would help in bringing out positive results in the future. He said that the Education department plays a major role in shaping up the character and personality of children. Terming the National Education Policy (NEP) as revolutionary change taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CM said that the objective of NEP-2020 is to provide quality education at every level to prepare good citizens.

The NEP has been prepared in the light of ancient Indian knowledge and thought which emphasises on the development of creating capabilities inherent in every individual.

The CM said that the objective of the NEP-2020 is to develop an education system consisting of tradition of Indian knowledge and values. Expressing happiness at the fact that Uttarakhand is going to become the first state in the country that is going to implement the provisions of NEP-2020, Dhami said that the education department should plan about the best practices it can adopt. He said that the loss of education occurred due to the pandemic of Covid-19 and it also affected the mental behaviour of the children. The CM directed that the proposal for providing vehicles to the block level officers of the education department should be sent to the government. The education department is demanding that block level officers should be provided with vehicles for better monitoring of schools and effective implementation of administrative and other works. Speaking on the occasion the education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the Chintan Shivir is being organised for the first time in the state for qualitative improvements in the education system in the state.

He said that the department would soon organise similar Shivirs in which the Principals, teachers and parents would be invited. Rawat informed that a roadmap for the future would be prepared from the views evolved in these Shivirs. He said that as per the NEP-2020, there should be one teacher for 30 children and at present Uttarakhand has one teacher for 15 students. Rawat said that the NEP would soon be implemented in the state and Uttarakhand would become the first state in the country to adopt this policy. He informed that changes in syllabus are being made in the state as per the NEP-2020. Emphasis on the education based on Indian Knowledge, Yoga, Vedas, Purans, Local dialects and Sanskrit would be done on the new syllabus. The minister disclosed that the Vidhya Sameeksha Kendra would get ready within one year.

Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundeer, former Rajya Sabha MP R K Sinha, secretary education Ravinath Raman, director general (DG) education Bansidhar Tiwari, director education R K Kunwar, director State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) Seema Jaunsari and other senior officers of the department attended the Shivir.
