Tea from Uttarakhand to gain international status, other products to also get GI tag

Tea from Uttarakhand along with red rice, Burans juice may get Geographical Indication ( GI ) soon. Along with these, the government is gearing up for getting international recognition for nine more products via GI tag. Till now Uttarakhand’s seven indigenous products have been given the GI tag which are Kumaon’s Chura Oil, Munsiyari Rajma, Bhotia dann, Aipan, Ringal Craft, Copper products, Thulma. The GI tag will help the products to be known as the unique identity of Uttarakhand.

Geographical Indication is a sign or name which is used on products to single them out as belonging from a specific place and attaining a special reputation because of its origin.
