RSS threatens prolonged stir on its demands
The Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh (RSS), the Uttarakhand-based association of government school teachers and lecturers, threatened to lock the gate of the Education Directorate as part of its stir on November 6. Sharing details, the RSS president Ram Singh Chauhan informed that with the State education department sitting on their longstanding demands for a long time, his association is left with no other option but to launch agitation. “As part of the agitation, the association functionaries will lock the gate of the Education Directorate and stage a sit-in on November 6,” he said and added that all the block-level, district-level and State-level functionaries along with the nominated members would participate in the stir on that day.
He further informed that on November 6, the members of his association would boycott work from 12 pm to 1 pm and take a video pledge to abstain from voting in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Furthermore, the teachers and lecturers associated with the RSS would solely focus on teaching and refrain from other tasks such as correspondence. “Non-compliance with this decision will be regarded as disloyalty towards the association,” he said.
Chauhan added that the RSS-associated teachers and lecturers would boycott all types of training and government-related communication as a part of the stir from November 17. “And all the heads of the institutions will officially step down, starting from that day,” he said.
A senior RSS functionary said that his association has been requesting the State education department to fulfill their demands for several months. “But the department continues to look the other way, forcing us to stir,” he added.
Asked to spell out their demands, he said that these include promoting lecturers and headmasters entitled to promotions within two months, and elevating lecturers with a grade pay of Rs 5,400 to the status of gazetted officers.
