Teenage boy booked under POCSO for assaulting minor boy

A 17-year-old boy allegedly sexually assaulted an eight-year-old in the Kathgodam area of Haldwani in Nainital district. The accused has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. After being presented before the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board, the accused was sent to a juvenile observation home on Sunday, the officials said. They informed that the incident occurred when the victim was at his home on Saturday when the accused from his neighbourhood took him towards the Gaula river under the pretext of grazing horses. The accused allegedly sexually assaulted the boy there. When the victim returned home, he informed his mother about the incident. Upon checking, his mother reportedly noticed bleeding from his private parts, the officials said. They said that the family took the boy to the Kathgodam police station and filed a complaint and the police registered a case under the POCSO Act. They claimed that the medical examination also confirmed the sexual assault. The officials said that the accused was apprehended and presented before the JJ Board on Sunday. From there, he was sent to a juvenile observation home. The victim’s family also alleged that the family of the accused were threatening them late on Sunday. They lodged a complaint against them and the police took action accordingly, the officials said.
