In the wake of the recent terrorist attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, the Char Dham Teerth Purohit Mahapanchayat has called for enhanced security arrangements at Uttarakhand’s Char Dhams- Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. They warned that the fallout of this attack may reduce the number of pilgrims traveling to Kashmir, potentially increasing the footfall at Char Dham sites instead.
The president of the Mahapanchayat Suresh Semwal expressed deep sorrow over the incident and demanded strict action against the perpetrators. He also urged both the State and central governments to intensify security in and around the Char Dham pilgrimage routes. He said that workers involved in the ongoing master plans at Badrinath and Kedarnath should be allowed to work only after thorough verification. He also insisted on the identification and proper documentation of all labourers working along the pilgrimage routes to ensure safety and accountability.
He talked about the need for proactive government planning, stressing that the increase in pilgrim numbers following the Kashmir incident could place additional pressure on local infrastructure. They called for immediate attention to both security and travel management to prevent any disruptions or potential threats during the upcoming pilgrimage season.
