Tehri DM orders prompt completion of  Kanwad Yatra arrangements

 With the Kanwad Yatra drawing near, the Tehri district magistrate Mayur Dixit directed while chairing a high-level meeting on Wednesday a string of measures to facilitate a peaceful and safe Yatra. This year, the Yatra is commencing on July 22 and will end on August 19.

Dixit later said he had ordered the officers concerned to make all essential preparations by drawing on their past experiences to ensure that the barefoot religious journey remains smooth and safe even during those days when the number peaks.  

He instructed the departmental nodal officers to provide daily updates to the sub-divisional magistrates (SDM) overseeing the Kawad Yatra in Narendra Nagar to guarantee seamless operations. He stressed on perfect coordination among the district administration, departments and police for a hassle-free Yatra.  The SDM is also mandated to share all information to be received with all the sector and zonal officials. 

The DM requested the block education officers to consider declaring a holiday in the schools under them when the number of devotees peaks in their respective areas, keeping in mind the safety of the schoolgirls.

The Irrigation department has been asked to assign personnel to the ghats and install security chains and signages there while the electricity department has been asked to conduct a joint inspection with the executive officer of the Nagar Palika to stop incidence of short circuits.  This aside, the drinking water department has been instructed to make proper arrangements to ensure uninterrupted water supply in parking areas and toilets.

The executive officer of Muni Ki Reti municipality has been directed to conduct area cleaning works in two shifts aside from deploying additional sanitation staffers and setting sound and lighting systems.  Besides, the Animal Husbandry department has been instructed to collaborate with Muni Ki Reti civic body to relocate the stray cattle in Kanji House or a gaushala.

Dixit also conducted an on-site inspection of the Kanwad Yatra routes to supervise the arrangements. During this visit, he emphasised on the completion of the sewerage line construction by the Irrigation department at Nagar Palika Chowk. He also ordered immediate repair of potholes near Omkarananda Ghat, removal of tents in front of the shops and relocation of rickshaws.

 Apart from this, he ordered installation of view-cutters on Ram Jhula bridge and signs prohibiting mobile phone usage and entry of stray animals on the bridge.
