Four young hockey players from Tehri have helped put Uttarakhand firmly in the national spotlight, playing an important role in the state team’s runner-up finish at the CISCE National Games Hockey Championship (U-19). The championship was held at the Field Marshal Cariappa Hockey Stadium in Bengaluru with teams from 12 states competing at the national-level event.

Representing Tehri were Agarim Dobhal, Sarthak Ragand, Chaitanya Jain and Shreyansh Bijalwan, all students of Omkarananda School. Their selection in the Uttarakhand squad and contribution to the team’s campaign has brought renewed attention to the district’s emerging hockey talent, the district sports officer Deepak Rawat said.

“Coming from the hills, where young athletes often have to overcome geographical challenges and limited exposure to elite sporting platforms, the four players have taken their game from the school level to a national arena,” said an elated ream coach Waheed Ahmed. The principal of Omkarananda School  Dhirendra Joshi  also congratulated the players, saying their performance could inspire more youngsters in the district to pursue competitive sport.

It is learnt that the players are scheduled to be felicitated by the Cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal soon.
