Temperature drops after rain and snowfall across State

Thunderstorms and rainfall forecast in State today

As forecast by the State meteorological centre, the weather took a turn in the State on Monday with light to moderate rain in the plains and lower altitudes along with snowfall in the higher reaches.

Similar weather is expected on Tuesday with the

meteorological centre issuing a yellow warning (watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lighting likely to occur at isolated places in districts of the State. The meteorological centre has also forecast very light to light rain/thunderstorms/snow likely to occur at a few places in the mountainous regions of the State. Snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand. Very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in plains of the State today. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness partly cloudy sky with possibility of light rain/thunderstorms in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 29 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

Meanwhile, the plains of the State witnessed light to moderate rainfall and the higher reaches experienced snowfall on Monday. Badrinath and other high altitude regions in the Chamoli district witnessed snowfall which has resulted in a drop in the temperature. The lower altitude mountainous regions experienced rainfall while the higher reaches received snowfall. Similar conditions were witnessed elsewhere in the State with snowfall being experienced in Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district.The pilgrims visiting these two shrines could be seen enthused by the snowfall. In Uttarkashi district, snowfall was reported at Saptarishi Kund, Bandarpoonch, Kalindi Parvat and Garud Ganga Top. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Monday were 20.8 degrees Celsius and 17.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 29.6 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 16.6 degrees Celsius and 10.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 14.2 degrees Celsius and 13.8 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. There was 21.6 millimetres rain in Dehradun, 17.2 millimetres in New Tehri, 12.8 millimetres in Mukteshwar, 32 millimetres in Bharsar, 30 millimetres in Betalghat, 27 millimetres in Nainital, 21.5 millimetres in Pauri and 24.5 millimetres in Satpuli.
