He said, “Isolated heat wave conditions were witnessed in the plains in the Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts on Friday. The maximum temperature is likely to rise to between 40 degrees Celsius and 42 degrees Celsius at some places in the plains in the coming days till May 20. On Saturday and Sunday, some places in the internal districts including Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh may witness rain and thunderstorms. However, the plains will witness dry weather and hot conditions.”

Singh further said that there is the possibility of forest fires being sparked in some parts of the State due to the dry and hot conditions during the next few days. He suggested that people should avoid venturing outdoors during the peak of the heat in the afternoon, remain hydrated and exercise other basic precautions to protect themselves from the ill effects of the heat.
