Following the approval of the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh, the State government has extended the term of administrators appointed in urban local bodies in the State by three months or till the formation of the new boards in these municipal bodies. In the notification order issued by Urban Development principal secretary Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu, it has been stated that when the term of the boards in the urban local bodies ended on December 1, 2023, the State had appointed the district magistrates concerned as the administrators in the local bodies till further orders. Due to the model code of conduct being in place for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the election process in the local bodies may get delayed. Considering this, the term of the administrators has been extended by a period of three months or till the formation of the boards in the local bodies, whichever is earlier.
