Thapliyal takes oath as mayor of Dehradun

Dehradun’s newly elected mayor Saurabh Thapliyal along with all 100 municipal councillors took the oath of office on Friday in a formal ceremony held at the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) premises. Thapliyal is the fourth consecutive mayor of Dehradun from the Bharatiya Janata Party. The oath was administered by Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey that marked the official commencement of their tenure.
The ceremony was also attended by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Urban Development minister Prem Chand Aggarwal and cabinet minister Saurabh Bahuguna, among others. After being sworn into office, Thapliyal administered the oath to all newly elected councillors. Four councillors arrived late in the ceremony but their oath was administered with the last 10 councillors at the end of the event. Several supporters of the mayor and councillors had also gathered outside the premises with dhols. They were also raising slogans praising their respective elected candidate. Many also bursted firecrackers after the ceremony.
During his short interaction with media after the event, Thapliyal said that the ceremony marked the importance of the newly elected officials in shaping the future of Dehradun’s urban administration that will efficiently focus on development, civic management and public welfare. The new board will work for effective governance, improved infrastructure and enhanced civic amenities for the city’s residents, he added.
