THDC India Limited has been making significant progress on the 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) in Chamoli, said the chairman and managing director of the public sector unit R K Vishnoi on Wednesday. He further said that a major milestone had been reached in September 2024 when the Double Shield Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) ‘NANDAKI’ completed 509 meters of the Head Race Tunnel (HRT), which involves installing 2,016 concrete-lined segments—a notable feat given the challenging Himalayan geology.
He further mentioned that in the same month, THDCIL had set a record by boring 29 meters of HRT in a single day, highlighting their advanced technological capabilities in this rugged terrain.
