The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) received the property tax of The Doon School on the last day of the financial year 2021-22 on Thursday amounting to Rs 2.88 crore. The municipal tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly informed that the school’s property tax was pending since 2016 and the school administration finally submitted the due tax on March 31. The corporation has been struggling to get the property tax of the buildings of the government, non-government and aided organisations since 2016 and it is yet to collect the tax of about Rs 12-15 crore from such bodies. The MCD had collected a revenue of about Rs 32 crore from about 70,000 properties registered in the corporation till Wednesday but there was a considerable increase in the numbers by March 31. It is being speculated that the MCD closed the year with a collection of about Rs 35 crores. However, the officials said that they will reveal the proper amount of tax collected this financial year on April 1 as the tax section is yet to calculate the total amount deposited in the corporation through various transaction modes. Besides this, the corporation will also start sending notices to the big defaulters who have not paid their property taxes in the last financial year from April.
