Following the footsteps of other BJP led State governments in the country, Uttarakhand has made the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ tax free in the state.
The state government has decided to bear the SGST component on the sale of tickets for the next six months. After watching the movie in a multiplex on Monday the caretaker chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had directed the state administration to make the movie tax free in the state. Acting on the directive of CM Dhami, the commissioner of state taxes, Manisha Panwar issued an order for waiving off the SGST component on the movie ticket for the movie goers. As per the order the state government would compensate the SGST not paid by the movie viewers to the cinema hall and multiplex owners. For claiming the compensation they would have to submit the return and details of the tickets sold.
On Monday the CM Dhami and many senior State leaders of the BJP had watched the movie. The BJP MLA from Mussoorie Ganesh Joshi watched the movie with 500 of his supporters in Dehradun on Tuesday.
The movie is based on the mass killings and exodus of Kashmiri Pundits from the Kashmir valley in the 1990s. The Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty starrer film is eliciting huge response from the audience in different parts of the country. Almost all the BJP ruled state governments have made the movie tax free in their respective states.
