Though Har Ki Paidi in Haridwar is noted across India and abroad for being a holy place and pilgrimage centre, thieves also tend to take advantage of people focusing on their religious activities. This proclivity was ascertained when the actions of a thief stealing the bag of a pilgrim at Brahmakund were caught by a CCTV camera.
This crime came to notice on Wednesday morning after a thief ran away with the bag of a visitor from Brahmakund in Har Ki Paidi here. The entire incident of theft was captured in the CCTV camera installed there.
Siddharth Chakrapani, an office bearer of Shri Ganga Sabha- the organisation that oversees the arrangement of Har Ki Paidi said that the organisation is fully alert for the safety of the people’s belongings. It is the result of this alertness that the thief was captured on the CCTV camera and the footage has been made available to the victim and the police. He said that the Shri Ganga Sabha has installed CCTV cameras at every corner of Har Ki Paidi but even then some such incidents happen which is disturbing.
Haridwar city circle officer Manoj Thakur said that a police post is established in the Har Ki Paidi area. The area is constantly patrolled by the police. The police will take legal action in this case if it receives any written complaint, he said.
