Third day of S&T fest focuses on milestones in Indian modern science & technology

The third day of the week-long festival of science and technology- Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate was observed on the theme “Milestones in Indian Modern S&T” at the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST). The UCOST director general Rajendra Dobhal talked about the power of knowledge and gave examples of famous scientists and their discoveries. He also discussed the ongoing developments in the field of health, energy and water sectors. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing director Prakash Chauhan, GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology professor and dean Alaknanda Ashok and All India Council for Technical Education deputy director Nikhil Kant were also present in the inaugural session.
The IIRS director Prakash Chauhan gave a presentation on “Observing from Space”. In his lecture, he talked about the journey of space technology in India, Indian space programmes and various types of satellites. He also told students about the latest updates in space technology and their societal applications. Kant gave a brief introduction to the role and vision of AICTE. He also informed the students about the different ongoing schemes and policies of AICTE.
Speaking on technologies and their applications, Alaknanda Ashok discussed the latest technologies like artificial intelligence, communication technology, green energy, cyber security and mechatronics along with their application in the field of education, agriculture, environment, manufacturing, healthcare and other spheres. She also told students about the latest technologies and their application in day to day life. The session was followed by a screening of science-based movies on the topic of science for a self-reliant India.
Later in the day, science-based fun activity and quiz competition were conducted for the students of different colleges. More than 350 officials, scientists, faculty members, researchers, students and others participated in the programme through hybrid mode.
In a related event, the Madhya Pradesh Council for Science & Technology (MPCOST) organised Vigyan Manthan Yatra online to expose meritorious school students to ongoing research and development activities in various science and technology institutions in India. Every year a group of meritorious students of Madhya Pradesh come to Uttarakhand under Vigyan Manthan Yatra and visit R&D institutions and interact with scientists but due to Covid-19 pandemic, the group could not visit Uttarakhand this time. On Thursday scientists of UCOST delivered online lectures and interacted with students.
