Third wave of pandemic getting intense in U’khand
2,915 new cases, three deaths reported on Wednesday

The omicron triggered third wave of the pandemic of Covid-19 is getting intense with each passing day in Uttarakhand. On Wednesday the state health department reported 2,915 new cases of the disease. The department also reported the death of three patients of the disease on the day. The positivity rate (PR) scaled to a very high 11.29 per cent on the day. The positivity rate is calculated by dividing the number of positive cases with the total number of the samples tested for the disease. As the guidelines of World Health Organization (WHO), a PR of more than five per cent is considered dangerous.
The cumulative count of Covid-19 patients in the state is now at 3,57,219 while a total of 3,34,700 patients have recovered from the disease so far. A total of 7433 people have died in the state so far. The recovery percentage from the disease is 94.09 per cent. On Wednesday death of one patient each was reported from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, Sushila Tiwari Government hospital Haldwani and Base hospital Kotdwar.
The state health department reported 1361 new patients from Dehradun, 424 from Nainital, 374 from Haridwar, 217 from Udham Singh Nagar, 131 from Pauri, 119 from Champawat, 85 from Almora, 70 from Pithoragarh, 63 from Tehri, 34 from Bageshwar, 27 from Chamoli, nine from Rudraprayag and one from Uttarkashi on Wednesday.
The active case count of Covid-19 in the state has now jumped to 8018. Dehradun with 3412 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Nainital has 1625 active cases of the disease which is followed by Haridwar district with 1389 active cases. Uttarkashi is at the bottom of the table with 17 active cases of the disease. In the ongoing vaccination drive 59,760 people were vaccinated in 1125 sessions in the state held on Wednesday.
