Following the Supreme Court stay in the defamation case filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party said on Friday that the nation is witnessing the celebration of the Congress which also questions the independence of constitutional institutions. “Those who are saying ‘Satyameva Jayate’ today were pointing fingers at the judicial process till yesterday and they can do so again because they will question such institutions for political gains,” said the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt.
He said that the Congress should avoid unnecessary celebration following the Supreme Court decision as the apex court had also observed that Rahul Gandhi had made an undesirable comment on an entire community. The court has only ordered a stay on the sentence handed out to Rahul Gandhi. Bhatt said that the court wants further clarity on the duration of the sentence handed out to Rahul Gandhi and has stayed the punishment till the hearing concludes to prevent injustice to the people of Wayanad. Taking a dig at the Congress he said that the party is celebrating as if Rahul Gandhi had achieved something big. He reminded the Congress that it was this same leader of the party who was questioning the existence of constitutional institutions in India in the country and abroad. Now the members of this very party are terming a temporary relief granted by a court as the victory of truth and justice, added Bhatt.
