In latest news from Uttarakhand, thousands of devotees thronged Haridwar to take the holy dip in Ganga on the auspicious occasion of Kartik purnima. This is the last occasion for this year for the holy dip in the sacred river. The Har Ki Pauri ghat has been chock- a- block with devotees since early morning as devotees from States like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan keep streaming into the holy city. According to the scholars of the Hindu scriptures, the Kartik purnima is meant for offering prayers to Lord Vishnu and the ritual of taking holy dip in Ganga coupled with making donations is deemed to be endowed with great religious/spiritual merits. Meanwhile, the Haridwar district administration has made elaborate arrangements in the city and the ghats, in particular, to ensure that the bathing festival goes off smoothly. The district officers informed that the Kumbh ground has been divided into nine zones and 33 sectors. Besides, the traffic department has enforced a diversion plan to ease congestion on the roads.
