Thousands undertake Shramdaan in Swachhata Hi Seva campaign

The nationwide cleanliness drive Swachhata Hi Seva was conducted in the State on Sunday in which thousands of people participated in an hour-long Shramdaan (voluntary labour). A cleanliness campaign was conducted in Gram Panchayat Pavwala Soda of Dehradun’s Raipur block in which about 80 senior citizens, villagers, officials, employees and school children participated. The participants collected about 50 kilogrammes of plastic and sent it to the Raipur block level plastic management unit for safe disposal. Uttarkashi’s Gram Panchayat Harshil also conducted this campaign under the Vibrant Village Scheme (VVS) of the Central government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Besides this, the municipal council of Chinyalisaur in Uttarkashi also conducted the campaign which was joined by several school and college students, local public representatives and several people from different fields who did one hour of voluntary labour. The officials said that seven nominated teams in seven wards of Chinyalisaur conducted this drive successfully on Sunday which was joined by about 1,000 people. The members of parliament Ajay Tamta and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank also participated in this campaign conducted by municipal bodies in Pithoragarh and Haridwar respectively.
