Three arrested for robbery in Selaqui jewellery store

The police have arrested three accused of robbery- Mithun, Johny Kumar and Ranjit who allegedly robbed a jewellery store in the Selaqui area on the evening of February 18 at gunpoint. Addressing a Press conference on Friday, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Janmejaya Khanduri said that the store owner Mushtaqim registered a complaint stating that two persons came to his stores as customers and after entering the store, they looted jewellery and cash from the store by pointing a gun at his eight year old son who was present there at that time. The DIG said that five teams were constituted which handled different tasks like investigating near the incident site and checking on the stretch of the routes leading to the site. “The police looked into the footage of about 300 CCTV cameras installed in the areas which led to three burglars and the bike used by them to flee the scene. The police released sketches of the accused and started investigating about them in the nearby internal colonies. It was revealed during the investigation that the accused belong to Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh and had arrived in Dehradun on February 17 and rented a house and executed their plan of robbing the jewellery store the next day. They had hidden the looted items and cash in the forest of Dhoolkot. The police nabbed them near the same area on February 24.” He said that the police have recovered the jewellery pieces worth Rs 5.50 lakh from the accused. They will be presented in the court soon.
