Three young men were arrested for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in the Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited (IDPL) area Rishikesh, police said on Wednesday. The police registered a case based on the complaint filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
As per the complaint, the minor had gone to the IDPL area with another girl known to her. Police said that it was when some youths had lured them and made them consume alcohol. The accused then took advantage of the inebriated minor and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Police later arrested the three suspects identified as Shivam alias Shubham, Govind and Deepak alias DP. The accused- all residents of the Roorkee area of Haridwar district- are aged between 19 and 21 years.
Police said that during questioning, the accused had admitted to luring the minor, making her consume alcohol and sexually assaulting her after she became heavily intoxicated. “The investigation is continuing and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence,” said a police officer.
