Three dead, five injured in two separate mishaps

 Three persons died and five were injured in two separate road accidents here on Saturday. In the first mishap, a wife and husband couple on a scooter were hit by a dumper near the Darau intersection on the bypass. The couple was dragged by the heavy vehicle for some distance. The police reached the site on being informed about the mishap and transported the duo to the hospital, where the doctors declared both of them dead. The deceased were identified as Shantipuri residents Mohan Singh Bisht and his wife Uma Bisht. They were riding towards Shantipuri when they were hit by the dumper, causing their death on the spot. The police identified the bodies, informed the next of kin and sent the bodies for post mortem examination.

In the second incident a Tata S vehicle first hit an electric rickshaw, went out of control and then hit a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction on the national highway near Shankar Farm on the route to Sitarganj. The bikers Amba Prasad and Girish sustained injuries while the e-rickshaw driver Nanhe Shah and passengers Pooja and Kaushalya were also injured. The five injured persons were taken to the nearest hospital, where Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh resident Amba Prasad was declared dead. The e-rickshaw driver was referred to a higher centre due to the seriousness of his injuries. All the other injured persons were referred to Haldwani considering their injuries. Sub divisional magistrate Kaustubh Mishra, Tehsildar Girish Chandra Tripathi, police circle officer Bhupendra Singh Dhoni and others reached the hospital on receiving information about three deaths and injuries to five persons in the two accidents. The Congress MLA Tilak Raj Behad also reached the hospital and provided assistance in shifting the injured to a higher centre. The officials and the MLA also met the bereaved families.
