Three dead, two seriously injured after jeep falls down mountainside in Champawat

CM expresses grief, directs officials to ensure best treatment to injured
Three persons died and two were seriously injured when the jeep they were travelling in met with an accident near the Dudhori area of Champawat on Sunday. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences over the incident. The CM also directed the officials concerned to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured men.
The officials said that the accident occurred around 4 PM when five people were going from the Amodi route towards Khatoli when the brakes of their jeep allegedly failed and it fell into a 300 metre deep gorge after the driver failed to control the vehicle. Teams of police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administration and Health department reached the spot after getting information about the accident. The officials said that the SDRF along with local people and police carried out the rescue operation and retrieved three bodies and recovered two injured men. The injured victims and the bodies were brought to the main road by the SDRF. The officials said that all the victims are local residents of the Champawat district.
The police have identified the deceased as Shankar Singh (55), Rajendra Singh (40) and Jagat Singh (62). The men who sustained serious injuries have been identified as Swaroop Singh ( 50) and Kundan Singh (44) who were hospitalised for treatment shortly after the mishap. They were later referred to the higher centre Sushila Tiwari government hospital in Haldwani for further treatment. The officials said that the villagers demanded to carry out the postmortem of the deceased on the spot as they belong to a remote village area. Subsequently, the postmortem was carried out at Amodi on the instructions of the CM, said the officials. Meanwhile, the ARTO Surendra Singh also reached the site of the accident and began investigation into the mishap.
