Three Himachal men dead in Chakrata road accident

Jeep driver lost control, vehicle fell 200 metres down mountainside

Three persons died when the jeep they were travelling in fell down the mountainside in the Chakrata area of Dehradun district on Saturday. The three men have been identified as residents of a village in the Nerwa area of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.

According to official sources, the Chakrata Tehsildar informed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) that a Bolero Camper had met with an accident at Patan near Meenas. The SDRF rescue team from Tyuni post was sent to the site of the mishap. The team found the wreck of the jeep HP 63 C 5039 in which three persons were travelling from Chaupal Tehsil in Himachal Pradesh to Vikasnagar area in Dehradun district. It is being reported that when the vehicle neared Meenas, the driver lost control of the jeep which fell about 200 metres down the mountainside from the main road. All the three men in the vehicle are reported to have died on the spot.

After reaching the accident site, the SDRF team got the wreck of the vehicle and removed the three bodies which were then brought with much effort to the main road using an alternative route. The bodies were handed over to the police for necessary formalities. According to officials, the persons who died in the mishap have been identified as the driver Rakesh Kumar (26), Surjeet Singh (35) and Shyam Singh (48). All three are residents of Tikri village in the Nerwa Tehsil of Himachal Pradesh.
