Three houses gutted in Uttarkashi fire

Three houses were gutted in a major fire in Ranachatti village of Uttarkashi district when a fire broke out in the wee hours of Tuesday. The fire also caused partial damage to some nearby houses but no casualties were reported, as per the police. The officials said that authorities concerned have estimated the loss of property to the families in the fire at about Rs 30 lakh.
The things which were damaged in the fire mainly include food grains, clothes, cash, gold and silver jewellery among others. The officials informed that the fire started and spread to three houses on Monday night and the police had to call in the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in view of the intensity of the fire. The SDRF teamed up with fire services and police personnel to douse the fire but by then three houses had been gutted.
The officials said that the roofs of some nearby houses also got damaged but no animal or human being was injured in the fire. The affected families have been provided with temporary shelters by the district administration. The locals have also demanded compensation for the loss of the affected families and the district administration is working on it, as per the officials. The police are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire and they are investigating the matter, said the officials.
