Three killed, four injured after cloudburst in Chakrata village

Heavy rain causes damage in Chamoli & Uttarkashi districts also
Three persons died and four were injured while about 20 cattle were killed following a cloudburst in Kwansi village of Chakrata region in Dehradun district on Thursday. Heavy rains also caused damage at various sites in Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts.
According to officials, a cloudburst was reported at about 9:55 AM in the Kwansi village in Chakrata area. The heavy rains and debris caused a house to collapse, killing three persons and injuring four. The Tehsil administration along with police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel reached the affected area to conduct rescue and relief work.
Following the damage caused by heavy rains in various parts of the state, chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat directed the district magistrates concerned to ensure swift assistance, proper treatment of the injured and shelter along with food to those rendered homeless. Apart from the Chakrata area, heavy rains and landslides caused damage at Lambagad in Chamoli district and on the Yamunotri national highway in Uttarkashi district among other sites. The chief minister also directed that monetary assistance should be provided immediately to the family of those killed and the injured persons. He also directed that necessary steps be taken to clear the Badrinath national highway, Yamunotri national highway and other blocked motor roads. Rawat further directed the officials to assess the damage and provide monetary assistance to the affected persons without delay. The district magistrates were also directed to assess the damage caused to crops and provide compensation to the affected farmers.
The State government is making all arrangements to ensure necessary facilities for people affected by natural disasters and clearing the national highways and other main roads for traffic. The CM said that as soon as information about damage caused by heavy rains at various places was received, the revenue police, police, local administration and SDRF teams sprung into action and reached the affected sites to undertake rescue and relief efforts.
It should be mentioned here that apart from the loss of lives in a village in Chakrata, heavy machinery and some vehicles were stuck in debris on the Badrinath highway at Lambagad.
