In view of the consistent demand of the students union at DAV PG College regarding the safety of students, the Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan (DSS) of Kanpur has formed a three-member committee which will conduct an inspection of the college soon. The committee was formed after the death of a young woman who died when a roadside wall of the college building collapsed on her. Regarding this, the president of ABVP at DAV college Dayal Singh Bisht said that the DSS is the management that was established several years ago to address issues that arise within the college. However, the organisation has never conducted an inspection since its formation. Taking into account the demands of the students union and considering recent incidents, the president of the DSS Manvendra Swaroop, has formed a three-member committee and instructed it to conduct an inspection of the college regarding student safety, he added.
Bisht further said that if the DSS does not make a decision in favour of student safety within 15 days, the students union will once again stage a protest in the college premises.
Further, the former principal of DAV College as well as a member of the three-member committee RK Mehta said, “The president of the DSS has recently established a committee in response to the recent incident that occurred in the college. The committee has been instructed to conduct an inspection and assess the condition of the DAV buildings. In November, we will carry out the inspection and aim to promptly submit a report to the DSS. The primary goal of the committee is to determine whether the other buildings in the college are adequately safe for the students. Any building found to be unsuitable will be prioritised for repairs in order to ensure student safety.”
