Doon residents of Chandatal in Mehuwala (ward 88) have been waiting for road and drainage work for nearly three years, despite repeated complaints to the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). Resident Hina Khan told
The Pioneer that they submitted their latest complaints to Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and the municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey about three months ago. Similar applications were submitted about two years ago and again last year, she said.
The poor condition of the road and lack of drainage have become a major problem during the monsoon, when rainwater and mud accumulate in the area and make movement difficult. Khan said that the condition has worsened further during rainfall. Responding to the issue, the mayor said that the matter would be examined after the monsoon. He said that Rs 50 lakh had been allocated to each councillor for development works in their respective wards.
“The approved works will be listed and work is expected to start soon,” Thapliyal said.
However, residents questioned the continued delay, saying that the issue had been raised repeatedly over the past three years. They also questioned why the monsoon should delay the work when the complaints had been pending for several years. Residents Manwara Khan and Satyawan Khan, along with others, have sought an immediate site inspection by the MCD and demanded concrete measures for construction of a proper road and drainage system.
“We are not asking for anything extraordinary. We only want a usable road and proper drainage. We have approached the MCD several times, but three years later, we are still waiting for the work to begin,” Khan said. “Residents should not have to keep submitting applications for the same basic problem year after year,” he added.
